Art Deco in the Public Establishment’s Design: A Fabulous Atmosphere and French Charm

Art Deco style appeared at the beginning of the last century in Paris. Like the capital of France, it is distinguished by a special, unique chic and a mixture of stylistic elements from other directions. The name itself translates as "the art of decor". This name appeared not in vain, because this style is created not only with the help of special materials, but also with the use of decorative elements. They place accents, transform the room in gourmet restaurants, in the best casinos of Riga, Madrid, Las Vegas.

Restaurants, bars and casinos design is always an exciting experiment. Unlike apartment’s interior design, restaurant rooms have their own characteristics and proportions. Designers have to look for a special furniture that would meet all the requirements of practicality and safety. The same applies to the decoration materials and decorative elements.

Art Deco features

Contemporary art deco is something new, with cultural diversity elements and unusual ethnics. This style successfully combines elements of classic, avant-garde, modern. It has many faces and it is diverse. At the same time, the space is not overloaded, does not lose its airiness and lightness, which can be seen in Michael Boettcher’s Storm International establishment.

From such styles as avant-garde, minimalism and constructivism, Art Deco took over the following features:

  • Attention to the form. This item is of great importance in the style’s implementation. The furniture’s form, decor on the walls, even small architectural forms - all this creates an accentuation and the right message.
  • Clear symmetry and geometry. Art Deco does not tolerate chaos and confusion. All items in the room are placed in a completely symmetrical order, there is no "lost" or too noticeable things. Tables in the hall, bar, wardrobe corner, even dishes - everything has its place. Absolutely everything around is a harmony of symmetry, almost a geometric symphony.
  • The line’s quirks and ornaments. In this rival Art Deco can only cubism. The lines in this design are noticeable and some bring some sharpness.

As for modernity, it introduced the following features to the style:

  • Forms variety. The interior in the "decorative" style is a real exhibition, demonstration with a fancy ornaments.
  • Paphos and discreet chic. Art Deco is designed to surprise and capture, to demonstrate luxury.
  • Smooth surfaces, shine.
  • Oriental, animalistic, anthropomorphic motifs.
  • Materials and colors

Art Deco style is great for creating interiors, because the materials used by them are practical and durable. This is a valuable wood, durable glass, forged metal. On the walls can be a mosaic from natural stone or ceramic, as well as hand-painted pictures.

For flooring use parquet, marble floor or ceramic tile. As for textiles, these are always noble fabrics. Velvet upholstery, silk cushions, satin curtains. Such materials are excellent even after years of use. Light old age patina gives them a special chic.

The feeling of airiness and spaciousness in such interior is achieved by using large mirrors in massive frames, furniture with a smooth glossy surface, glass-painted partitions and stained glass windows.

As for the color range, Art Deco is, first of all, deep noble shades. Contrasts are arranged emerald, purple, gold, cherry, ruby, olive. A combination of black and gold, emerald green and snow white is used most often. Chip color design - it is unobtrusive, but noticeable ornaments. It can be ethnic or abstract paintings.

    Lighting and accessories

Art Deco accessories are an important element. And in public places they are especially relevant, because they talk about place’s direction, its politics and cuisine, its principles. The decorative style in restaurants and cafes is exquisite floor lamps with fancy shapes, curved chair legs and tables in the form of female figures or flowers, wrought iron cornices, original table accessories - stands for napkins, pepper shakers, and so on.

As for lighting, this is a full-fledged component of general aesthetics, said Darren Keane from Storm International. Soft flowing light from floor lamps and lamps on the walls, candles in candelabra, glare on crystal and stained glass elements - all this creates a special atmosphere. Exquisite chandeliers and lamps are welcome too.
